Our Competitions - click on the links for more information

The Master Chef of Great Britain was formed in 1980 to provide a forum for the exchange of culinary ideas and to further the profession through training and guidance to young chefs. Continuing these original ideals we have created an environment where we can work closely with colleges and the hospitality industry to promote this career path to students and apprentices.

Throughout the year we hold a series of competitions to encourage students and apprentices to show their skills in a competitive environment.

This competition is for young chefs aged 23 years and under and sets them the task of serving a three-course meal using a number of set ingredients and a classic recipe which whilst testing their skills also gives them the opportunity to put their own flair and imagination into the dishes.

This competition is open to any pastry chef, aged 23 years and under on the day of the competition, working in a hotel kitchen, a restaurant kitchen or training at college. Each applicant must submit two recipes for plated desserts: a classic souffl?and a dessert of their choice.

Our membership is made up of chefs working in hotels and restaurants  who are at the height of their profession, college lecturers  who are passing on their skills to the chefs of tomorrow and leading industry figures who are prominent in the supply of foodstuffs and equipment to the hospitality industry.

Zest Quest Asia was launched in 2013 to promote the cuisines of Asia to UK resident catering students as an outlet for their culinary skills and a platform for a potential career in Asian cookery. This is a team competition which tests the skills, knowledge and understanding of the authenticity of the style of cuisine that the students have acquired.

This competition is now open to all students and professional chefs. The concept is simple,  create any one of a starter, main course or dessert utilising Finn Crisp as an integral part of the dish. The product can be processed in any way, eg: processed for use as  crumbs, softened for moulding purposes, broken down into fragments etc.
