IAIN TENNANT: WINNER OF SCOTTISH HIGHLAND CHEF

The Master Chefs of Great Britain are delighted to announce the Scottish Highland Chef Competition winner is Iain Tennant, Junior Chef de Partie at The Gleneagles Hotel.

On Wednesday 20th September, eight finalists prepared a three-course menu at Perth College UHI in 2 ½ hours. The finalists were:

·      Josh Cooper, Perth College

·      Ross Marshall, The Station Hotel, Rothes

·      Nayeli Alcazaar, South Lanarkshire College

·      Lewis MacLeod, UHI Argyll

·      Hayley Bruce, The Carnegie Club, Skibo Castle

·      Jordan Clark, The Grandtully Hotel

·      Iain Tennant, The Gleneagles Hotel

·      James How, Aramark

Each participant had to include Scottish produce with a starter of hand dived scallops from a recipe provided by the Chairman of the Judges, Chef Steven Doherty, a main of venison and a dessert featuring the bounty of seasonal berries which demonstrated their individual skills. They were judged on taste, presentation, creativity and workmanship

The concept was originally launched by Albert Roux over 10 years ago. Now Roux’s former Head Chef, Steven Doherty, is leading the panel of judges to find the best culinary talent in the Highlands of Scotland.

The Scottish Highland Chef Judges were:

·      3-Star Michelin Chef, Steven Doherty, Former Executive Chef of La Gavroche

·      2-Star Michelin Chef, Stevie McLaughlin, Head Chef of Restaurant Andrew Fairlie

·      1-Star Michelin Chef, Graeme Cheevers, Head Chef of Unalome

·      The first winner of MasterChef: The Professionals, Derek Johnstone

·      Glen Watson, Chef Patron of Badgers Mount

·      Chairman of the Master Chefs of Great Britain, George McIvor

Awarded second place, named The Most Promising, was Hayley Bruce, Chef de Partie at The Carnegie Club, Skibo.

The prizes were presented by Steven Doherty, George McIvor and their fellow judges. The Winner, Iain Tennant received a cash prize of £500 and Stages in both The Corinthian and Restaurant Andrew Fairlie. The Most Promising, Hayley Bruce, received a cash prize of £250 and a stage in Unalome.
